fancyapint.com There's one little stipulation though the pub mustn't be listed as having television. In my book a pub with TV wouldn't get a 5 pint listing anyway. If any pub has a TV I leave and move on the the next. I may have a new project. I thinking about visiting and having a pint (or two) in every one of the 5 pint rated London pubs at |
I wonder if it would be pushing it to try and visit them all in one day?
Jetlag... I'll power nap this afternoon so I'm all bright and bushy tailed for curry tonight.
Yeah I suggested a "Untainted by Television" listing on fancy a pint a few years ago. They thought it would be a negative thing... I did wonder if the people behind FAP are sports fans they certainly didn't get the whole anti TV thing.
I keep thinking about doing a website listing pubs with a no TV policy. Would be nice to be sure when visiting a pub there's no chance of the whole evening being ruined by the press of a button.
Slightly less annoying is having to listen to the bar staff's choice of music.
I'm not anti TV in all pubs... But I am anti the lack of choice in my area, I can't think of a single pub in walking distance without a TV.
But wasn't it amazing when we managed to get them to turn off the rugby in a pub in Twickenham?
What we need is for a few of us to get together, raise some capital and buy our own pub. If we create our 'perfect pub' (no TV, lots of quality ales, a 'gentlemens club' atmosphere) then it's certain that other beer-lovers with will also find it perfect.
Whilst you were in the States, I was reading about a pub over there that has around 70 beers. It looked superb. Could do with something like that over here.
I rather like the idea of founding a new gentleman's club.
It's funny one of the things I can't cope with in the US is the choice. I become bewildered when confronted with 10 types of bread at a sandwich bar. However I think I could cope with 70 beers.
Would you be up for the "5 pints" pub crawl?
I was thinking about taking a day off work for it ;-) and starting with a stout breakfast then being on the doorstep at opening time of the first one. Photo of the participants outside each pub.

If it's during a working day in the next few weeks, I *might* be able to participate. I've got 2 weeks paternity leave, plus a weeks holiday booked. From my point of view, it would be best to do it towards the end of that time.
