Reading & An Underground Arch [Jun. 17th, 2012|12:36 am]
Mark Rimmell
I'm having a spot of bother reading at the moment. I try picking up a book or my kindle last thing at night, my traditional reading time, and I can't focus. Looks like the glasses prescription is in need of an up-date... Bugger! More money.

Today i spent a few more hours under the house cleaning layer upon layer upon layer of paint off of this...

This has been going on for weeks and has necessitated the purchase of an air filter, disposable coveralls, dust masks (box of 50), acid based brick cleaner, wire brushes... I was beginning to wish I'd never started. The thick layer of blue gloss paint was especially stubborn. But I'm nearly there. I'd love to clean all the cellar walls back to brick but just this little arch where the old copper sat, is taking way too long. So I hope to finish it tomorrow, after buying more brushes, because I've worn 3 down to their rims already.

Once cleaned and sealed I plan to build a small cabinet in this space, and as there's a work bench going in and pipes have to be boxed in... the only part of the wall that will be visible will be the top part of the arch, the bit I've spent ages cleaning.

Next on my list of "things to buy"... a cement mixer.

Next on my list of things to do... make a hole in the concrete floor of the cellar and make a sump for the pump.
