Building for beginners pt 27 [Aug. 5th, 2012|10:55 pm]
Mark Rimmell
The last few days have been busy. Karen came to stay and lent a hand with a couple of projects.

First was the hearth that was in danger of falling into the cellar...

Ready for concrete.

The hearth has got to be tough because it's got to take the weight of this, plus coal, plus pots, pans, stew, and a kettle.

Karen insisted her gloves matched her hair.

cellar_steps
Mocking-up the bottom steps. Yes the stairs are just hanging there.
The original bottom two steps were alarming flimsy.

Now the bottom two steps are ridiculously over engineered.
Many thanks to Karen who mixed all the mortar.

I think you should put a time capsule in there somewhere.

Maybe you could print out this LJ entry and hide it in the hollow bits of the steps...unless you're planning to put lift-up hatches there for under-stair storage.

I like the time capsule idea. There will be hatches in two areas for access to pump, pipes, and associated electronics...but there is one area that will be closed in so I'll sort out a suitable container.
