Out and about in town on Sunday, celebrating Jem's birthday. Started at the Boho for lunch and after a trip to the Lighthouse, New Inn, and Port Arms... I called it a night and headed home.

Crashed out very early, Woken around midnight by rain and wind. First test of the new pointing and extension roof, all watertight so far. Although there was a worrying dripping sound coming from somewhere upstairs, I think it was the dog licking herself.

Can't sleep. Have been reading for 3 hours.

In other news... My car is off the road. Not using it until it's been seen by local garage. Booked in for next Friday. I need a new car and resent spending any money on keeping the old one on the road, however I need the old one to get around to look at new cars.

I have lots of work to do to the house. Not least of all de-chaosing some of the rooms for the impending visit of carpenter, builder and painter who are coming to talk about new windows. This is sort of booked for sometime after the 10th. Must get on with that... but also need to get on with the attic/office and all the shenanigans that job entails.

A while ago I met a couple who were renovating their house and they were doing one room a year. I thought at the time one room a year sounded a little on the slow side. Now I think it's about right, when you consider this is a spare-time project and most rooms require; pulling down or plastering over old ceilings, lifting and/or laying floors, building of bookcases and cupboards, plumbing needs moving and/or replacing... All this and more besides before you get anywhere near wallpaper or a paintbrush.
