Credit card aggravation but happy ending...
I tried to place an on-line order for wedding presents on a gift registry. Seemed reasonably straight forward... Until a little later when my credit card company use an automated call to check if I really made the purchase. Which is a good idea.. However after a while I get fed up with dealing with a robot and decide to call a real person... lucky I did because it turned out they refused the payment for the wedding presents out of hand. I ask "why don't they call me to check first then refuse it?" and "why didn't the automated call explain this?"... that's not the way it works it seems. They kept telling me they "have to make security checks"... But this wasn't a "check" it was a refusal. They also wanted to go back weeks and check all my recent activity. They suggested the company "may represent the request"... Yeah and if they don't I can see a situation where the items are off the gift registry but never turn up... and I particularly wanted to get these items for my friends. My credit card company couldn't of picked a worse payment to refuse... Seemingly just on a whim as I buy stuff in the US by mail order all the time. My credit card company were unbelievably unhelpful. I can not understand why they can not put the request on hold while checking with the card holder.
So it was down to me to call the store and ask them to represent the request (makes me feel like a criminal). I do this and get a pleasant surprise. The lady at store couldn't of been more helpful and long story short... there was more than a silver lining to all this, so it was well worth me calling and reordering.
So as usual it's UK bank zero points, US company one hundred and eighty points.
