Set the alarm for 6am this morning to call hospital about my uncle... They told me yesterday he would be having a little operation this morning (UK time). They can't tell me more over the phone (doctor patient confidentiality) but it's "nothing to worry about". They are very fond of that phrase. Seems I have something else not "to worry about" because when I call to see how he was after the operation, I was told he hadn't had it. My first reaction was to think he was too ill to have the operation... but it seems it's the surgery team and not Cliff that is holding things up. So I'm sitting here very nervous until it's time to call back again.

In other news... (and I really needed some good news)

My letting agent has emailed me. They have new tenants for me... references are being checked and they move in as soon as old ones move out. And I have a sneaking suspicion I know the people, not very well just on nodding terms. Very relieved as I think the next few months could be expensive for me. And this would be the worst possible time for my income to halve. I'm thinking of getting digs near the hospital my uncle is in when I get back to the UK, my car is due for a service and MOT and I may have to clear out my uncle's flat, if he really is serious about going into a residential care home.

And, apropos to nothing what so ever, my 60Gb mp3 player is full up.

maybe you shouls state you are next of kin, if that would make a difference

new tennants in is good.

i think getting digs a bit extreme, visiting hours are limited, public transport cheaper.

Yeah but it takes nearly 3 hours to get there. And I also need to be up there to sort out stuff with social services, sort out his flat...

They know I'm next of kin... nephew doesn't seem to cut it though, even though I'm his only blood relative.

yes 3 hours is a long time, maybe someone from one of the groups you belong to such as VC can give you a sofa.
it will all work out.

please don't try to worry about your uncle too much... sound like it is just a little op - and so when something more serious comes up - that takes priority.

have you no-one you know you could maybe dos with near to where your uncle is?

let us know when you get back - i have hols for the last 2 weeks in aug - could maybe meet up for a coffee if you have the time/money are in sw london...

Ian's not far but he's in the process of moving out. I don't want to intrude. I want to be closer anyway. I was only thinking of a couple of nights in Enfield, somewhere out on the Ridgeway it's pretty much countryside up there.

Yes most certainly up for coffee... I will make time. Fancy doing some charity shops? There are two I keep meaning to go back to in Hampton.

We need a buyer before we can move out. I don't see why you couldn't crash over, if Gemma's OK with it.

Don't worry about it... I think I want to be really close. I could always stay at my uncle's come to think of it.
