We Need Your Help.

Just opened today's post... I had a reply to one of my letters about the Olympic cats.

The reply came from Mr David Higgins, Chief Executive of The Olympic Delivery Authority. It reads in stark contradiction to what C.H.A.T. say has been going on. So who do I believe... Hmmm... let's see on one hand we have an animal charity who would really like to get on and rescue cats and the ODA who would really like to get on and deliver an Olympic Games on time and on budget (well one out of two won't be bad).

So I've written back to Mr David Higgins (Chief Executive of The Olympic Delivery Authority) explaining that he really doesn't seem to have his finger on the button about this, and may be he's so far up the ladder he doesn't really know what is really happening on site.

The petition on the site is now up to 9000... If only all those people would also write to:

1. David Higgins, Chief Executive, Olympic Delivery Authority, 1 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London E14 5LN.

2.Write to your own M.P. and ask him/her to write to the Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell M.P. with your concerns. You will then receive a reply from her office signed by her, rather than simply receiving a reply from a civil servant.

3.Write to: Lord Sebastian Coe, Olympic Delivery Authority, 1 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London E14 5LN.

4. Write to: John Armitt CBE, Chairman, Olympic Delivery Authority, 1 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5LN.

Individual letters carry much more weight with MPs than a name on a petition.

How did you pitch your missives? Short and sweet? Ask them to politely look into it, or demand something be done forthwith?
Cos I really should fire off a couple of silos myself

Here's wot I wrote

I am extremely upset to hear from members of the Celia Hammond Animal Trust about the difficulties (this only puts it mildly) that they have been having with the Olympic Delivery Authority whilst trying to rescue stray cats from the Olympic site.

Already these cats are being referred to as "The Olympic Cats" and have found a place in the hearts of the British public. However at the moment The O.D.A. seem to see them as a hindrance to the progress of the building work and bizarrely refusing the Celia Hammond Animal Trust access to rescue these cats, whilst at the same time claiming they are working closely with the trust.

Even if you can not find it in your heart to help these animals... Do you know the bad publicity the this is already beginning to generate? With talks of boycotts of sponsors products already being discussed on-line, unless C.H.A.T. is permitted to continue their work. Work which the O.D.A. wrongly seem to think is being allowed to continue, according to the O.D.A. own newsletter (Issue 3, November 2007).

If you are unaware of the situation please look at the Celia Hammond Animal Trust www.celiahammond.org

Second letter

Thank you for your reply to my letter.

I would find your letter reassuring where it not for the fact that my information comes from The Celia Hammond Trust. I can not help wondering if you are so far up the ladder, that you are unaware of what could be really happening on
the bottom rung. The Celia Hammond Trust are experts when it comes to this sort of work, and I feel the ODA should allow them access and listen to advice they give.

It seems to me that the ODA publicly say they are permitting the work, where as CHAT are saying they are being repeatedly refused access. I can only think there must be some sort of communication breakdown between your office and the Olympic Park site about this matter.

Once again I would urge you to read what the Celia Hammond Animal Trust's experience has been. www.celiahammond.org it reads in stark contrast to what your office believes has been going on.

Did you know that "Out of the 157 cats and kittens that C.H.A.T has already rescued, only 5 cats have been reported to us (C.H.A.T.) by the O.D.A."? So I really don't think any system that relies on your contractors reporting cats
brings much confidence.

Please see attached to see just some of the recent experiences C.H.A.T. has been having according to their website:

Yours sincerely

Mr M. Rimmell

Re: Here's wot I wrote

Marvellous! I like the way you’ve raised the matter of bad publicity and boycotts AND how these cats are beloved by Joe Public.
Thanks for that! I’ll use it as a template and to get the right tone in my letter
