Went to Elektrofest. Had hoped to see B-Movie but it seems the old peoples home they live in locks the door at 7:30pm so they couldn't play. However I really enjoyed XPQ21 the singer, Jeyenne, looks part droog, part dark mime. His moves are splendid, sinister theatre. The band belt out a cracking set that's sadly cut short due to the whole show running late. I only knew XPQ 21 for their rendition of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" and "Beautiful" it seems there are more strings to their bow than just these two tracks, a lot more! Ooo! I think I've done what I said I would never do here. I've almost reviewed a gig.
Also picked up the new fresh, untouched by human hand, packed by robots. Swarf album. And jolly good it is too, "Jack the Biscuit" as we say here.
Left for home half way through Project Pitchfork set due to stupid train times. Not sure if they weren't doing anything for me or I wasn't in the mood to get drawn into it as I knew I had to get back to Waterloo hideously early because the trains are about as much use as a paper hat in an air raid.
Got train, four drunk lads (did you know "lad" is another word for "idiot") on train pretending to fight each other. Rolling around on the floor. From their conversation it seems one is an off duty copper (he looked about 16 and acted like 3 year old, no exaggeration!)... probably best not to say what I was thinking and I bet I had more to drink than them and I don't feel the urge to roll on the floor with a "lad". I'm convinced their behaviour is caused by repressed homosexuality. If only they could come to terms with their own sexuality they'd be so much happier. Should I have explained this to them? Well I decided to move a few seats further down from them and this got right up their noses that or the look I gave them as I got up to move. You know the look it's the face you pull if you step into something soft and brown on in the street. One of them glares at me for the rest of the journey but flinches when I get up to get off at my stop.
Unx and Bunny P come round to visit Unx's PC which is in the Rimmell Foundation Hospital for Very Sick Computers. They bring me payment of pickled garlic and pickled chillies... Yummy! we watch "Big Fish" and I cook a big Chinese stir fry veg meal in black bean sauce.
Later I get to talk to Ari which both makes me happy and worries me... I'm worried because ... well for one it seems her job is more dangerous than I could imagine... and she is just back from receiving treatment for a head injury sustained at work. I'm even more worried to hear the accident happened last week and she has only just decided to do anything about it. I'm insisting Ari wares her roller skating helmet at work in future.
Got up real early and start installing new version of Windoz XP on Unx's PC... I was so tempted to install Linux but he'd only say "what's this?" and "I don't like it" and "why is there a penguin on the case now?".
I've finally go hold of a "jack knife" it arrived by post this morning, looks very much like the one in the recreation of the Sherlock Holmes room here.
'When I find a man who keeps his cigars in the coal-scuttle, his tobacco in the toe end of a Persian slipper, and his unanswered correspondence transfixed by a jack-knife into the very centre of his wooden mantelpiece, then I begin to give myself virtuous airs.'
Just need to fake a few Victorian letters now. Also looking for an overmantel and a hallstand... I've seen a few of each but either too big, too expensive, or bad modern reproductions.
Tonight I'm off to the Jerusalem Tavern for beers with Ian. Should get myself together as I need to go to a couple of shops down Tottenham Court Road for computer bits before beers.
I'm looking forward to the day when I can return to this post and think to myself "I'm glad that's all finished". Maybe that…
