Just got back from Yorkshire. I drove up on Friday in a hire van. Many thanks to Fiona for putting us up. Had a wander around York with Fiona on Saturday. Then this morning went to pick-up this...
Victorian encaustic and geometric tiles.
Another ebay find.
This is exactly to sort of floor I've dreamt of. I saved a bit on the fireplace project due to only one flu needing a liner so this is what I've spent the cash on. Now all I need to do is... Establish the heights of both the parquet plus a levelling layer of ply and the tiles plus a substantial levelling and reinforcing layer of ply and mortar, will be. Then with a bit of joggling make them the same height so there's no step up or down between rooms. Then all the tiles need to be cleaned, and laid out to replicate the pattern in the above photograph. There will have to be a few changes here and there because my hall is slightly smaller than the one the floor originally came from, but this means there should be enough to sort out the best tiles to reuse.
Nearly 600 miles round trip. I'll take the van back tomorrow, too knackered to drive anymore today. I feel a long bath and a couple of beers coming my way.
