If a piece of wood gets jammed in a saw spinning at 4500 it can get thrown back at you. This phenomenon is known as 'kick back'. I just narrowly escaped taking the tip of my thumb and fired a lump of wood into my stomach, good job there's plenty of padding in that area. I imagine the effect is much the same as being shot with a baton-round. If I don't have spectacular bruises I will be a little disappointed. Off to stuff thumb into bag of frozen peas.
