I'm so pleased I didn't try this little "knock through and put a door in the hole" job myself. The builder told me it was the most complicated knock through job he's ever done. Seems the wall at the very place I decided I wanted to be a hole was a patch work of several layers representing various versions of the house over time. The pile of rubble tells the story in the mixture of different blocks and bricks.

Door fitted.
Builders return on Monday to trim it out and clear-up... they'll probably want paying too. Still not used to the door, it gives me a little start every time I pass it. In a "Oh! I forgot about that." sort of way.

Next job is fit two new windows in the garage. Just got to decide what sort, although that decision may come down to what I can get the cheapest. Then I can start on the workshop / laundry room in the garage.
