In other news...
There is a pipe leaking under the house. It's not a gusher, just the old lead supply pipe sweating then pooling, then dripping out of the wall. I checked the water board website and was surprised to find that (although legally it's my responsibly) they will replace the pipe under their code of practice. So I called the number and explained the situation. "Nope nuffin' to do with us mate." Was their response. I read out the relevant section of the code of practice to the chap on the phone. He went away to ask his supervisor, and came back to say "OK that's fine" and asked where the leak was, I explained AGAIN "somewhere under the house". "Oh that's not our responsibility." he said, So once again I read out the relevant section of the code of practice. He went away for longer this time, I imagine him going for a walk to the canteen, having a coffee... he comes back and is surprised to have learned that the pipe can be replaced for free. He tells me someone will be out to look at the pipe sometime in the next 48 hours. His exact words "sometime in the next 48 hours".
Well you guessed it, 48 hours later no one has turned up. So I call back. "Ah that's 48 working hours"
WTF? Seriously? So why didn't the guy on Friday say 2 working days?
I just know I'm going to have further arguments about the code of practice when (or if) they do turn up. I'm sure they just dick people around knowing a percentage will give up and get the work done by someone less crap.
